Ochsenkopf OXK

50°02' N / 11°48' E

Altitude: 1015 m a.s.l.

Tower height: 190 m

Trace gas measurements have been made on the Ochsenkopf summit by the Max-Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Jena since 2003. The measurement technology was upgraded in 2014-2015 to support integration in the ICOS project. In 2019, the station became an official ICOS station. CO2 and CH4 concentrations are measured at three heights (23 m, 90 m, 163 m) using a Picarro G2301 CRDS analyser with a measurement duration of 5 minutes per height, sampling sequentially all the heights on the tower. A Los Gatos LGR 30-EP analyser is used for the continuous measurements of N2O and CO.

The following measuring instruments are used to record the meteorological parameters at the three sampling heights and on an additional structure at a height of 2.5 m:

  • Air temperature and humidity: Vaisala HMP155
  • Wind direction and speed: Thies Ultrasonic Anemometer 2D
  • Precipitation: Eigenbrodt RS85
  • Air pressure: Vaisala PTB330
  • Global radiation: Kipp & Zonen CM6B

These data are supplied on a continuous basis at a time resolution of 1 minute.
