Hetzdorf

Currently the TU Dresden (Chair of Meteorology) operates 6 monitoring sites to measure energy, water and greenhouse gas exchanges of different land uses including 4 sites (Tharandt, Grillenburg, Klingenberg, Hetzdorf) within the framework of the ICOS-D ecosystem component (TU Dresden or Tharandt cluster).

The site Hetzdorf (50°57'50.50"N, 13°29'23.37"E, 395 m a.s.l.) has been established at a 40 ha windthrow area caused by the Kyrill storm in 2007. After the disturbance oaks have been planted. As an expected ICOS site Hetzdorf replaces a wetland site in the Spreewald (EC measurements from 2010 to 2015).

Start of the EC measurements using an ultrasonic anemometer CSAT3 (Campbell Scientific Ltd., Logan, Utah) and a gas analyzer LI-7500 (LiCor Inc., Lincoln, NE, USA) was in 2010. The site is also equipped with measurements of radiation components, air temperature and humidity, precipitation as well as soil observations.

Due to the high amount of deadwood and the young oak plantation this ecosystem is still a slightly decreasing net CO2 source. During the growing season (April to September) the negative net ecosystem productivity is between -270 gC m-2 a-1 (2014) and -140 gC m-2 a-1 (2015). The ratio of net ecosystem productivity and gross primary production is -0.30.
